Summertimes in Austin

Added on by lea thompson.

I am celebrating my third and what is most likely my final summer spent in Austin. Iced coffee, swimming at Barton Springs, hitting up the food trailers, hiking (and falling) at  the Greenbelt, kayaking at Town Lake: I have loved living in this city. I can't think of any other city in the world where I would willingly go to a party in the forest, or interact so closely with innovations in technology, art, and of course, music. I recently discovered Blues on the Green, a free summer concert series that takes place at Zilker Park every few weeks. One of my favorite musicians and a local Austinite, Ben Kweller headlined the show this past week. I had been wanting to see Kweller for years, and it's slightly ridiculous that I hadn't been to one of his shows before.

Sipping white wine out of a plastic red solo cup (classy!), singing along to "Penny on a train track" with new and familiar people, watching Kweller jump around the stage with  inexplicably blue-green hair made me feel content with life. It's a bit disconcerting not knowing where I will be in a year or even a few months from now, but I felt extremely happy knowing at the moment I was exactly where I was supposed to be. I'm excited for more Austin adventures.
